About us

The North Devon fundraising branch celebrated reaching £1 million in 2009!
Will you play a part in raising the next £1 million in North Devon?
The committee and group members hold organised events throughout the year, ranging from table top sales to extravagant balls.  The group meet regularly to share ideas,

AGM Report
Thank you very much to all of the North Devon CLIC supporters that attended the CLIC Sargent North Devon AGM at The Cedars in Barnstaple on Wednesday, 26th May 2010.
Thank you to Mike Clift, our retiring Chairman, and Sara Jones, our retiring Treasurer, who have done fantastic jobs for the branch over several years . Mike summarised the achievements of the Branch over the last 12 months. Most noteably was the reaching the £1 million total for money raised in North Devon. Thanks to Brian and Marge Taylor, June Wright, Ivan Huxtable, Dale Bazely and Rose and Joe Warner, Margaret and Ron Clayden for their involvement with this and their huge commitment to CLIC Sargent over many years.

Ali Ramsay, South West Fundraising Manager, provided an informative summary of regional news and thanked all of the committee that have stepped aside for their years of dedicated work. Ali reported on corporate partnerships with Tesco, Weatherspoons, HMV, Marks and Spencer and Virgin.

Further National successes were the opening of the 6th CLIC house – Billy’s house in Nottingham and the 7th, Paul’s House, in London would be opened this year.

In North Devon, Alison told of 9 children (4 of whom were newly diagnosed), who were under the care of CLIC Sargent.

Catherine Hunt , Chair of the Bideford Ladies Circle presented the committee with a cheque for £3283.79: proceeds from a year’s fundraising in aid of CLIC Sargent. A fantastic  achievement.

A new committee were elected with Diane Chavasse, the inspirational mum of Ollie, taking on the role of Chair. Di will be a great leader for CLIC Sargent North Devon to continue its good work; she already undertakes promotional talks for the charity relating to her running and fundraising. Di pledged to continue to “spread the word” and demonstrate her conviction that the core values and aspirations of CLIC Sargent to help the children, should be at the centre of all future fundraising.

Guest speaker, Helen Chadwick provided the AGM with an excellent insight into the role of a CLIC Sargent Nurse Specialist. Recently retired, Helen has served the Exeter area as a CLIC nurse for many years. Her recollections were entertaining and illuminating.
Mike Clift quoted Ivan Huxtable in his report, summing up the efforts of the last 23 years of CLIC Sargent and the focus of the committee for the years ahead: “We do it for the children.”  We do indeed.

Ivan’s Variety Night was held on Friday, 9th July in North Molton Sports Hall.
The night included a fantastic ABBA Tribute Band. The event was attended by  600 people who enjoyed a wonderful night of  variety.  A huge thank you and congratulations to Ivan and his team.

Latest Fundraising Highlights

Bingo! All those that had their eyes down in Fremington Village Hall for Bingo on Monday, 13th September had a fantastic night. North Devon Chair, Diane Chavasse stated that it was a great fun and roll on the next one!
The Bingo is run professionally but the organisers donate the proceeds of their weekly raffles to a different charity each week. It was well run, well attended and our CLIC Sargent raffle prizes were very well received. The evening raised £439 for the branch.  Thank you very much to Claire Symons and Jenny Birch who organized for that Monday to be a night for CLIC Sargent. The Bingo sub-committee are now working on getting the Christmas Bingo proceeds in 2011. Very sought-after apparently! Watch this space!

Next up was the Family Barn Dance. Despite clashing with the Barnstaple Carnival and Fair Night, the event on Saturday, 13th September was full-up with lots of families prepared to miss the Carnival to do the Dosado and there was some great dancing to the excellent band.!

The barbecue was buzzing—thank you to Ped Dunbavin who could just be made out behind the blue haze of the barbecue for all his burger cooking—and to Theo and Jacky Massos who did a very steady trade on the bar. Claire Symons did another excellent job with the raffle.  Kevin and Jenny Birch did fantastic work, as ever, setting up the event.  The very enjoyable evening made £400. All in all, a great fund-raising week for the branch.

A Darts Marathon at the First In Last Out Pub in Bideford in September was held in memory of Josh Northcott. It raised a fantastic £1,348. Congratulations to all involved.

Mary Cooper, better known to many as Mary Chugg, opened the Exhibition of her beautiful paintings on Thursday, 21st October 2010 at the Barnstaple Museum.  The exhibition has been a great success, with 19 pictures being sold, generating a wonderful donation of £2,746.35 for CLIC Sargent.
