More than 240 people attended the CLIC Sargent Ball at Newquay’s Headland Hotel on Saturday 18th October, this years event was sponsored by Newquay Fruit and Julian's of Newquay. The event helped to raise more than £10,000 for CLIC Sargent.
The event began with bucks fizz and a photo opportunity with Clare Parker of SeaPea Photos followed by an excellent four course meal and auction. Guests also enjoyed dancing to the music of the Somerset based Band Fairplay. We were delighted this year to welcome Starstruck with talented singers Emily Aldridge, Dominic Wood, Kirsty Smith, Tom Hare and Paul Dash, accompanied by musical genius Alistair Taylor. The group sang a range of songs from hit musicals.
Organiser, Hannah Eustice, said: "We had fantastic support again from local businesses. The auction was exciting and we had wonderful prizes including a beautiful local pictures, hotel stays, rounds of golf, beauty treatments and a corporate day at Cornish Pirates. Auctioneers Brian, Jonathan and Bradley Start of Start and Co kept the guests on their toes with their quick and often witty sales techniques.
During the evening special presentations were made to Alan Sykes the retiring Chairman of the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Branch of CLIC Sargent. Alan has been the Chairman for 22 years and during that time more than £1 million has been raised for CLIC Sargent in Cornwall. Alan has worked tirelessly for the Charity and will be greatly missed. His presentation was made by newly appointed Chairperson Joan Morrish.
We were also delighted to be able to present flowers to Paulene Rowlinson who has worked in Cornwall as a CLIC Sargent nurse for many years. Paulene is retiring in January 2009. She has supported many children and their families over the years, her commitment and professionalism has made her a unique and special friend to many.
CLIC Sargent was presented with a cheque for £1,850 from local golfers known as POTS who play every Thursday at Newquay Golf Club. One of the members of POTS David Cole came up with the idea of the Three Counties Golf Challenge to raise funds for CLIC Sargent and with fellow POTS Ian Pick, Dave Stephens, Mike Leech, Nigel Eustice, Dave Pryor, Dick Rundle and Simon Cowling played three rounds of golf in at three golf courses in 3 Counties -starting in Taunton, Somerset, then Dartmouth in Devon and finishing at Newquay Golf Course in Cornwall.
Many thanks to all who have supported this event again this year.
