A smart recycling initiative has helped the employees of CLIC Sargent corporate partner Grass Roots, turn their collective stash of unwanted Christmas presents into a tidy sum of money to help children with cancer.
The Tring based firm has been working CLIC Sargent since Summer 2008. The Directors of the company kick started a programme of support by spending a day tending to the gardens at CLIC Court in Oxford. Since then Grass Roots has staged a number of fundraising events for the Charity including Wii Olympics, a quiz night and a Grass Roots Got Talent event which took place at the Court Theatre in Tring. These activities were followed with a secret santa event in the run up to Christmas when employees within the Research Operations team organised a collection of gifts suitable for children, which they then gave to CLIC Sargent Fundraisers, Sue Bowcock and Emily Lever, at their annual Christmas lunch.
The Unwanted Christmas Presents auction was held on Wednesday 21 January at the firm's Research and Operations centre in Wendover. Presents included items from High School Musical merchandise, CDs and Jo Malone perfume to a “Relax Day” voucher for two, kindly donated by Champneys of Tring and a star lot of a week’s holiday at a villa in Spain.
Tamie Hutchins who works for Grass Roots as an HR Business Partner, bid £111 to win the Relax Day voucher for 2 at Champneys. She commented: “The auction was a clever idea and turned out to be great fun. I was thrilled to win my bid and doubly so to know the money is going to a good cause."
The auction raised £757.42 taking the total amount that Grass Roots employees have raised for CLIC Sargent since last summer to nearly £6,500.
Cindy Withey, Corporate Responsibility Manager at Grass Roots is delighted with the partnership: “Staff have really taken the charity to their hearts. I am particularly pleased that we have linked our support to a new policy on volunteering and some practical opportunities for our employees to get involved with CLIC Sargent projects.”
