Kick for Children with Cancer

A young girl from the North-east of Scotland who has twice battled leukaemia provided the inspiration for a fundraising event in aid of CLIC Sargent, which was held at her local football club.

The youngsters of the Bervie Soccer 7s collected money for CLIC Sargent as part of the annual Kick for Children with Cancer Campaign at one of their recent training sessions.

Abbie Sclater, who is eight years old was first diagnosed with leukaemia in 2001 and spent 10 months in hospital. She received a transplant from her brother Cameron, who was just four at the time and she went into remission for three years.

However, in July 2005 the cancer returned and Abbie had again to endure months in hospital in Glasgow. During that time her family were able to stay in Cruachan House and Abbie’s mum Elaine said this made a huge difference to the family during such a difficult time.

Abbie and Cameron both took part in the Kick for Children with Cancer fundraising event, although due to exceptionally wet weather that day the event had to be held indoors.
