One of the largest charity events ever to take place on Orkney saw over 170 cheerful and brave Orcadians go dashing into the waters of Scapa Bay on Boxing Day to raise over £17,000 for CLIC Sargent.
The event was made a huge success by fantastic support from Highland Park, the Sea Cadets, Rotarians and several individuals including Kenny Thomson, CLIC Sargent’s co-ordinator on the Island.
Peter Logie, CLIC Sargent’s Community Fundraising Manager says: “I had a feeling our first ever Boxing Day Dip in the north of Scotland might work on Orkney but even I was bowled over with the success. We put together a tremendous team, to whom I owe a huge thank you, who delivered an excellent event. I would like to thank everyone who gave up their time to help on the day, whether it was in manning boats, making soup or helping with car parking.”
The Boxing Day Dip was such a success an awards ceremony is to take place for the winners and to thank those who helped organise the event.
With the matched funding that The Robertson Trust provides to Highland Park employees, we hope to top well over £21,000 which is magnificent!
The Charity would also like to thank everyone who took part on the day, in particular the three families whom are being supported by CLIC Sargent.
Thanks also go to the main sponsors Highland Park and The Orkney Media Group and to the Scottish Co-op for helping out with refreshments on the day.
