A team of three young men from Glasgow, called Lost in the Woods have raised more than £1,000 by taking part in CLIC Sargent’s 24seven Challenge.
Their dedicated training paid off, and the team came in fifth place overall in the event, which pushed body and mind, take part in a series of physical and mental challenges over 24 hours.
The 24seven event took place in the beautiful Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire and began with a mini triathlon encompassing mountain biking, running and kayaking down the River Wye. The teams were also faced with a 530 piece jigsaw, which had to be completed at rest intervals over the course of 24 hours.
Other challenges that they were faced with during the event, included a 10 mile orienteering course through forests, caves and across water, a six mile mountain bike trail with memory tests and an ominous task aptly named Water Torture!
Event staff started to get a little worried when the team didn't return along with everyone else from the last event, there were fears the team may have actually got Lost in the Woods. However, they appeared from the distance carrying full pint glasses of blackcurrant juice (as part of a challenge). They decided to take there time and ensure they returned back safely with the most amount of juice in their glasses. In turn, the team won the event and well deserved too!
A total of 68 people took part in the event, which pushed body and mind to the limit with a series of seven physical and mental challenges completed over 24 hours. Up until the event started at 12pm on the Saturday, participants were kept in the dark as to exactly what the event would require them to do, which was all part of the fun!
Simon Smith, Lost in the Woods team member says: "A brilliant 24seven event - what great fun and great fundraising. Having been subjected to exhaustion, both physical and mental, frustration and confusion, indecision, stress and trauma it was quite a weekend. But at the end we get to go home - and this, I guess, is the key point. It was a 24-hour glimpse of the sort of emotions that the patients and families that CLIC Sargent helps, go through. Except, they don't get to go home after one day."
