The Carfin Hibs Club, Newarthill played host to a fantastic charity fundraising evening recently raising a staggering £5,417 for CLIC Sargent. The event was organised by a very committed and hard working family and friends committee from Carfin, they were inspired by close family member Jay who had been diagnosed with a rare type of cancer.
Gail, Jay's mum explains: “Jay was diagnosed with ACC (Acinic Cell Carcinoma) last year. He underwent two major surgeries within the space of three weeks, we also had to educate ourselves on this cancer. The help and guidance offered by CLIC Sargent to my son and I was an invaluable source of financial and emotional support.
"The fundraising event we held was for two reasons. First of all to raise awareness of CLIC Sargent as we were ten months down the line and had not been made aware of CLIC Sargent and secondly to try and repay them for everything they’ve did for us and to help other families who are put in this horrible and most unfortunate position.”
Jay went on to say “I would like to thank everyone who contributed to making this night the wonderful success that it was and also to all the local businesses who kindly donated fabulous prizes and took tins into there shops. I would also like to thank Nicola Shields and Martin Foley who voluntarily gave up so much of their time to make this night happen."
