The 2008 Loch Ness Marathon and Festival of Running, which took place in October was a spectacular success for CLIC Sargent. The event raised £21,000 to help children with cancer and their families.
CLIC Sargent received huge amounts of support from the Scottish Co-op and saw 92 runners from their stores as far afield as Orkney, Aberdeen and Glasgow took part in the 5k and 10k events with one marathon runner from Thurso.
Among the team was Scottish Co-op’s Chief Officer John McLeod from Glasgow who took part in the 10k and came first, showing how it should be done!
It was fantastic to see so many runners wearing CLIC Sargent T-shirts at the event as well as many in some great fancy dress costumes.
Peter Logie, CLIC Sargent Community Fundraising Manager for Highlands & Islands and Moray says: “What a fantastic weekend! Not only was the number of runners a record for any Scottish event from one company but having eight marathon runners was a record for us as well. Currently we have received a wonderful £15,300 from the Co-op and we think there is more matched funding still to come in.
CLIC Sargent would like to thank everyone who took part in the Loch Ness Marathon and Festival of Running. Thanks also go to the 15 CLIC Sargent volunteers who did a fantastic job manning one of the water stations.
