So..they had what it takes to go over the edge for children with cancer, would you?
Sunday 21 October saw 26 brave people take part in our annual Tyne Bridge Abseil. Not only was this a great experience to abseil 100ft from a major landmark in the North East but it also helped the 10 families each day who are told that their child has cancer.
It only cost the participants £10 to register and they were asked to raise a minimum sponsorship of £100 each. Some did even better than that, with one lad raising almost £500 just by himself! If they raised over £125 they got a very fetching free CLIC Sargent T-Shirt.
One team, called Team Tommy, took part in this charity abseil in one of the team member’s son’s name. Tommy was diagnosed with leukaemia in September last year and has been undergoing treatment at the RVI in Newcastle.
So far almost £5000 has been raised from the event and we are hopeful that this figure will raise as sponsorship money keeps coming in. We were also extremely lucky this year to have the support of the Hadrian Branch of Foresters once again. They generously sponsored the event and helped to provide volunteers on the day. Foresters are an international financial services organisation which has operated in the UK, US and Canada for over 130 years. Foresters support nearly 100 charities across the UK and many local children’s hospices. Last year their charity work involved 20,000 volunteers and some 4.7m hours of community involvement, which helped to raise £27m for worthwhile causes.
