CLIC Sargent is urging locals to pull on their walking boots and colourful wigs for a 5.5k forest and river walk at An Creagan Visitors Centre on Sunday 27th September.

The Wig Walk will raise money for children and young people with cancer, and their families. Participants are encouraged to don a wig for the day and prizes will be awarded for the most hair-raising!

Cllr Patrick McGowan, Chairman of Omagh Council and 22 year-old Claire Henderson from Omagh are supporting the event. Claire knows first hand the difference CLIC Sargent can make when going through treatment for cancer. She was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma since 2007, and now is in remission. Claire recieved support from a CLIC Sargent Social Worker for young people throughout her treatment.

“The support of Suzanne, my CLIC Sargent Social Worker, was invaluable to me during my treatment.” says Claire. “The Wig Walk is an enjoyable way to raise money for this great cause and also explore the stunning scenery around An Creagan. It would be great to see as many people as possible to pull on weird and wonderful wigs and stride out together to raise money for children and young people with cancer, and their families. Every penny, and step taken, can make a real difference!”

Registration costs £10 and each walker is asked to raise a minimum of £50 in sponsorship.

Each week in Northern Ireland two children or young people are diagnosed with cancer or leukaemia.  CLIC Sargent Northern Ireland acts as a lifeline keeping families together when the unimaginable happens. It provides clinical, psychosocial, emotional and financial care and support to them and their families.

For more information or to register for the walk please contact Katie Setterfield, CLIC Sargent Area Fundraising Manager, on: 028 9072 5780 or email: katie.setterfield@clicsargent.org.uk.
