690 women from across Northern Ireland donned their running shoes to take part in the Belfast Telegraph Runher five kilometre event to raise money for CLIC Sargent.
Amongst the runners were two members of the CLIC Sargent Northern Ireland Youth forum, Katrina Black and Leigh Campbell along with Lindsay Bagwell, CLIC Sargent Youth Development Worker Lindsay Bagwell and Leigh’s mum.
CLIC Sargent fundraising staff and volunteers were also there on the day to cheer the runners along the way and especially at the finish line. There where even a few gorilla’s to be seen among the crowds.
After the race many people came to speak to and interview Leigh and Katrina about their experiences of cancer – most notably Olympic Gold Medallist, Dame Mary Peters. Leigh said: “CLIC Sargent is a great organisation and helps organise interesting days for us, which helps us to build friendships and confidence – it’s really brilliant.”
To top an excellent day off, it was announced that an eight kilometre race will take place on Sunday 5th October and thanks to a lot of hard work, CLIC Sargent has been chosen as the officially charity for the event.
