CLIC Sargent is calling on runners taking part in this year’s Dublin Marathon, to put their best feet forward to help families whose lives have been turned upside down by childhood cancer.
The Charity is looking for runners to join its team and pound the streets of Dublin on Monday 26th October 2009 to raise money for children and young people with cancer, and their families.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the 26-mile event, which is affectionately known as the friendly marathon as so many spectators line the city’s streets to cheer on runners. Runners will set off from the landmark Trinity College to weave through Dublin’s streets and parks, before crossing the finish line at Merrion Square.
Naomi Conway, local Community Fundraising Manager for CLIC Sargent, says, “It’s really exciting to be creating our own running team for the Dublin Marathon. We would love as many people as possible to run in our fuchsia vests and raise money for CLIC Sargent.
The race will be physically and mentally challenging but what better motivation to get you over the finishing line than knowing the money you are raising will go towards providing vital care and support to families affected by childhood cancer.”
All CLIC Sargent runners will receive a free fundraising pack, a CLIC Sargent running vest and fundraising support and advice.
The Charity funds a social worker based at Our Lady’s Hospital in Crumlin, County Antrim, who is there from the moment of diagnosis, helping ease the emotional and financial strain on families.
