On Sunday 12 July CLIC Sargent hosted its second annual abseil from the Queen’s Medical Centre (QMC) in Nottingham. 74 people abseiled on the day and the event hopes to raise £18,000 for children with cancer.

Many participants took part in fancy dress. Batman and Captain America braved the abseil in support of a young girl called Sadie who has just finished her cancer treatment. Michael Cumberlidge, whose daughter is currently receiving treatment, dressed up as a big baby after smashing his fundraising target.

Friends David, Jade and Rhys who are all undergoing treatment at the QMC and are being supported by CLIC Sargent Youth Worker, Rachael Ewing, also chose to support other young people with cancer by braving the abseil.

Dee Richardson, Event Fundraising Manager at CLIC Sargent, who organised the event along with Steve Follows from the hospital, said: “There were so many other wonderful stories of why people got involved and how much they raised, I’d be here all day telling you about them. Once again it was a great event and I’d like to thank everyone involved; The Longbow Branch of Foresters – who sponsored the event, the hospital for allowing us to do it, the abseil company, the participants who obviously have put their heart and sole into raising their sponsorship money and to the volunteers who helped out on the day and who helped to promote the event. Thank you everyone!”

CLIC Sargent funds a dedicated Social Care team who are based at the QMC in Nottingham, to support families who have a child or young person with cancer every step of the way.

If you would like to take part in next year’s abseil on 4 July 2009 (TBC) please contact Dee Richardson at CLIC Sargent at:dee.richardson@clicsargent.org.uk.
