13 year-old Callum Fairhurst has received a Diana Award in recognition of his hugely impressive fundraising efforts for CLIC Sargent. Callum was nominated for the award by his local newspaper – The Ely Standard.
Callum has used Twitter to get together a group of people from all over the UK to cycle from John O’Groats to Lands End to raise money for CLIC Sargent. Callum hopes to raise £20,000 to help children with cancer.
The young fundraiser was presented his award by the Schools Minister Nick Gibbs MP at a special ceremony at Barclays Building in Canary Wharf in London
The Diana award, in memory of Princess Diana, is presented to young people – from all circumstances and sections of society – who are determined to take action and make a difference to their communities and the lives of others.
Callum is the second member of the Fairhurst family to receive an award. His brother Liam also won a Diana Award after being diagnosed in 2005 with bone cancer and raising £320,000 for CLIC Sargent. He sadly died in June 2009 after losing his battle with cancer. Callum is determined to continue the good work on his behalf.
Congratulations Callum!
