Doctor Doug Richards, from Redditch is planning an unusual celebration to mark his 60th birthday. From 28th June to 13th July, he will run the 120 mile Andean Triangle Running Adventure in South America in support of CLIC Sargent.
During this remarkable running adventure, Doug will take in some breathtaking sites in Chile, Bolivia and Peru, including the Atacama Desert, the world’s driest desert; Salar de Uyunyi, the largest salt flats in the world; Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world, and Colca Canyon, at 3,400 metres deep, one of the deepest in the world. Doug has run many marathons before, but this time he will be running to raise money for CLIC Sargent to help children with cancer.
Doug says: "Cancer has robbed me of many dear relatives and friends well before their time, not least my Mum and Dad, but it can be very hard for families to bear when it occurs in those at the very beginning of their lives."
