On the 11th and 12th October 2008, the first ever 24seven Challenge took place in the stunning surroundings of Symonds Yat, in the Forest of Dean.

21 teams of three plus five plucky individuals arrived at the start,  unsure of exactly what challenges lay ahead of them!

The seven challenges
Each task was designed to test the teams and individuals physically and mentally;

  • The Prologue
  • Journey of Discovery
  • Jigsaw task
  • Tower of Strength
  • Total Recall
  • Water Torture
  • Fundraising (this began as soon as people signed up)

The Journey of Discovery task saw the challengers, with only a marked map for guidance, navigate their way to a series of 10 points. They could choose to trek to all 10 points, collecting a piece of a puzzle at each stop, or they could choose to visit only a selection of the nearest ones - the more points they went to, the more they scored back at the event HQ.

But all was not as it seemed, with some task's titles misleading participants as to what they might have to do! Water torture was nothing to do with trickling streams or sub zero temperatures as some thought - it actually involved a plastic pint glass full to the brim with blackcurrant squash being navigated by each person through a 2.6 mile muddy, rocky and branch-strewn route! The water left in each glass at the end was weighed and scores given for the heaviest (the 'cling film gang' were spotted en-route and penalised!).

Great atmosphere
Throughout the event, amongst the aching muscles and soggy clothing from a canoe capsizing, there was plenty of laughing and good humour. Although there were denials of any competitiveness - some teams were up til 1am in the morning trying to finish their jigsaw task!

Triumphant end
24 hours later and the tired, mud-splattered but smiling finishers watched as Team Air Tight were crowned the winning team and Tom Inchley the winning individual of the first ever CLIC Sargent 24seven event!

2009 event
The 2009 24seven event will be set in a brand new UK location with a different and challenging set of seven tasks for teams of three and individuals. If you would like more information please visit www.24sevenchallenge.co.uk
