Katherine, Jade, the birthday girl and Isabella enjoy a pizza making party

Like many little girls, Jade from London asked if she could have a party to celebrate her eighth birthday recently.

Jade and her school friends enjoyed a fantastic birthday party making pizzas, along with the traditional birthday cake, balloons and party frocks! However Jade’s birthday had a twist and she kindly chose to ask for donations to CLIC Sargent, rather than receive presents from her friends and family.

After hearing about her about her mothers’ cycle challenge in Vietnam with CLIC Sargent Patrons Eddie and Marie Jordan, (last year in aid of CLIC Sargent), Jade decided she wanted to do her bit to help children with cancer.

Jade’s generous and selfless efforts, raised £400 to help CLIC Sargent help the 10 children diagnosed with cancer every day in the UK.

Jade’s mother, Jane explains: “We really wanted Jade to celebrate her birthday with her friends but we explained to her that she would have to forgo something.

“Jade was more than happy to forgo birthday presents. For Jade, it was more important to do something to support CLIC Sargent with her friends and family around her rather than receive gifts.”

Jane spent 10 gruelling days cycling 500 kilometres, through tough terrain in Vietnam and raised a fantastic £7,000 to help children and young people with cancer.

Friends with CLIC Sargent Patrons Eddie and Marie Jordan, who have supported the Charity for more than 10 years, joining the cycle challenge was an easy choice for Jane.

“Last year’s cycle across Vietnam was truly incredible and a life changing trip. But it was really tough at times”, says Jane. “The group of people I went with were exceptional and it was a joy to spend the challenge with them. Seeing many Vietnamese children enjoying life with very little was humbling; but knowing my fundraising was making a difference in the UK to children going through cancer treatment kept me going.

“Whilst in Vietnam I wrote a diary of my challenge and about CLIC Sargent for Jade and her school friends. I found it really worthwhile and a way for Jade to understand how fortunate she is to be so happy and healthy.”

Jade says: "I am happy for being able to help other children who are poorly. I know how lucky I am to be healthy and happy. It was lovely to spend a day with all my friends and I hope the sick children get better soon. I also hope they get a fabulous birthday like I did."
