Sarah, Liam's mum, tells his story in her own words:

"Liam swam a mile on 22 December 2006, a year to the day that he finished treatment for a cancer that resulted in him losing over half of his thigh muscle."

"He was not only spurred on by the support he received, but also by the thought he was doing it in memory of a very special child whom he had met whilst undergoing treatment.  Jack was a year older than Liam and had bladder cancer.  He and Liam would share computer games when undergoing chemotherapy at the same time.  It helped them forget their illness and be children again."

"Sadly, Jack died in August.  Liam was devastated, but it made him appreciate how ill he had been and how lucky he was.  Swimming his mile to raise money for CLIC Sargent was a lasting tribute to his friend, and what a tribute!"
