Home > Get involved > Campaign with us >CLIC Sargent ran a campaign to ensure better support at school for children with cancer and other illnesses.
Thanks to the efforts of CLIC Sargent supporters – emailing their local MPs, writing to the Prime Minister, or telling us their story – the Government has agreed that children with cancer and other illnesses need to be offered more and better support to continue at school.
CLIC Sargent has met with MPs from all the parties to tell them how important this is, and one young woman went to 10 Downing Street to deliver all your letters in person!
At CLIC Sargent, we know keeping up with education is important to children and young people with cancer. Going back to school not only helps them lead as normal a life as possible, but also helps them cope better with the challenges of cancer treatment. Of course many schools do already provide very good support to pupils where it is needed, but sadly this is not available everywhere. At a debate in the House of Commons on Friday 8 May, MPs told the Government why more needs to be done to support these pupils.
CLIC Sargent is delighted that the Government has listened to your messages and has agreed to take action. We will be working to make sure that these commitments turn into a reality for all those children and young people who need and deserve support at school when they are ill.
If you have a story you want to share with us about your experience of keeping up at school, please email: campaigns@clicsargent.org.uk.
