CLIC Sargent is campaigning to cut the red tape associated with children's cancer care, and to establish a cost neutral bridging payment for families to ease their financial distress.

The financial cost of cancer

Every day ten children and young people are diagnosed with cancer. For their families, the stress has been immense. But so too has the financial burden:

  • 83% of families incur significant extra costs associated with their child’s cancer treatment
  • 68% of families experience worrying financial difficulties following the cancer diagnosis due to extra costs and reduced working hours
  • Families facing up to having a child with cancer will have to wait twelve weeks to be eligible to apply for benefits.
The benefits system

With the launch of the Cut the Red Tape policy paper, CLIC Sargent is calling for a simplification of the benefits claim process for families to keep it simple for kids with cancer. For more information vist our campaign information page.
