Barry McGuigan, winner of ITV’s Hells Kitchen, joined Gary Lineker and Eddie Jordan last week (10 October) to host the tenth Sunningdale Golf Day in aid of children’s cancer charity CLIC Sargent.

The event, which raised more than £70,000 for the charity, saw 24 teams of players (including a number of celebrities) making their way round the famous 18-hole Sunningdale golf course, before retiring to the club house to enjoy a three course lunch, charity auction and raffle.

A team from Belfast, comprising of Michael Burke, Phelim Moylam and Simon Black from Heat Energy & Associated Technology came first, playing alongside John Lodge, bass guitarist from the Moody Blues. They were each awarded engraved tankards. In second place was ‘One 51’ a team from Dublin comprising of Barry McGuigan, Philip O’Connor, John Toomey and Ray Coogan. Magic Events, a team consisting of Sky Sports News Presenter Matt Lorenzo, Charlie Feather, Matt MaGahan and Mike Chard came third.

The auction also went well with the nine items up for grabs generating more than £60,000 for CLIC Sargent. Notably the opportunity to have a bespoke suit made by esteemed Scottish designer Craig Pogson - with the chance to have the colours of the winning bidder’s favourite sports team incorporated into the interior lining - went for £4,000. A package holiday to South Africa for two people, consisting of a night in Cape Town, two nights at the Kleine Zalze Wine Estate and four nights at Fancourt including return flights and transfers, went for £10,000.

The money raised by the Sunningdale Golf Day will be used to provide support and care for the 10 children and young people diagnosed with cancer every day in the UK.
