A fitness fanatic is returning to his home turf to take part in this year’s Fritton Lake Triathlon on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 May 2010, in support of CLIC Sargent.

Seasoned triathlete, Barry Sherwood (29), who is originally from Lowestoft and now living in Derbyshire, will be taking part in this event for the third year in a row and is using it as a training exercise for his next big challenge, the Austria Ironman in July 2010.

Taking place at the Fritton Lake Country Park on the Somerleyton Estate, the Fritton Lake Triathlon is the perfect event for triathletes of varying abilities and ages. On Saturday 29th, ‘first timers’ can join the Super Sprint and Sprint races, while more experienced athletes, like Barry, can tackle the Olympic Distance (1500m swim, 40km cycle and 10km run) the following day, either individually or as a team relay.  Young hopefuls are also being catered for with a Children’s Fun Duathlon for those aged 5 to 14 years.

Barry, who is aiming to raise £2,000 for CLIC Sargent from the Fritton Lake Triathlon says: “I am really looking forward to taking part this event for the third year in a row and have chosen to fundraise for CLIC Sargent. While being a fantastic event in itself, the triathlon is a great training exercise for the ironman which I will be embarking on in the summer, just before my 30th birthday. It’s great to know that while taking part in Fritton Lake, I will be helping children with cancer and their families.”

Event Organiser, Simon Edwards adds: “Following the success of previous years, we are delighted to have CLIC Sargent as our official charity partner once again for 2010 and to provide the challenge for people to raise money to support children with cancer.  The Fritton Lake Triathlon has gained a reputation for providing a welcoming, friendly atmosphere and for being a great day out, not just for competitors but for the whole family.  The race programme provides something for everyone regardless of ability and we expect to see around 500 competitors over the weekend and to raise in excess of £1,200 for CLIC Sargent from registration fees alone”.
