More than 1,000 Mums said spending time together with the family is the best present they could receive this Mother’s Day, according to the results of a new survey.

The poll of 4,000 Mums was run by CLIC Sargent in celebration of its national fundraising campaign, Yummy Mummy Week (6th – 14th March).  When asked what the best present Mums could receive would be, a family day out still proved to be a firm favourite, topping the list of most-wanted gifts for almost a third of women.  All of whom put their nearest and dearest above more self indulgent treats such as two hours of uninterrupted ‘me time’ (13 per cent) or simply a break from domestic duties with either a day off the cooking (6 per cent) or the household chores (6 per cent).

Narrowly missing out on the top spot was a romantic meal out with just their partner (18 per cent) closely followed by a handmade-card or present (17 per cent).

Mums were also asked for their views on what they believed it meant to be a ‘real life’ Yummy Mummy.  More than a quarter (27 per cent) opted for someone who overall is happy and content with her life and role as a Mum.  And more than half of Mums (56 per cent) polled said they aspired to be a ‘real life’ Yummy Mummy.

The research was carried out to mark the start of Yummy Mummy Week, which is run by the children’s cancer charity CLIC Sargent. The national fundraiser encourages Mums of all ages to get together with friends and family and have fun hosting their own event to raise vital funds for families affected by childhood cancer.

The face of this year’s national Yummy Mummy Week 2010, actress Patsy Palmer, said: “It is fantastic that so many Mums across the UK truly know what it means to be a ‘real life’ Yummy Mummy.  And that the Yummiest Mummies are those who are believed to be truly happy and content with their life and role as a Mum.”

Katie Barlow, CLIC Sargent’s National Events Manager for Yummy Mummy, said: “What better way to be a ‘real life’ Yummy Mummy than hosting your own Yummy Mummy event, such as a coffee morning, barbecue or a sponsored welly walk, and have some fun together as a family?

“It is the perfect opportunity to spend some quality time with friends and family, while knowing every penny raised will make a world of difference to the thousands of children and young people undergoing treatment for cancer and their families.”
