Pupils at the Florian School of Dance in Winchester have presented a cheque for £4,000 to 23-year-old former pupil Bonnie Wilson’s chosen charity, CLIC Sargent. The money was raised through a series of special dance performances at The Point, Eastleigh.

Bonnie, a keen dancer and newly qualified teacher at Fair Oak Infant School, sadly lost her battle with cancer just days before the first performance of Feel like Dancin’ in July. She had hoped to be able to dance a small role in the show and had also been helping the school with their preparations. The Florian School of Dance decided to continue with the five performances to raise funds for Bonnie’s chosen charity, CLIC Sargent.

One of Bonnie’s close friends, Josephine Strickland who also teaches contemporary at The Florian School of Dance, was commissioned to choreograph a piece for Bonnie.  The school also celebrated this remarkable young woman’s life by dedicating the final performance to her on Sunday 20th July.

Annette FitzGerald, Principal of The Florian Dance School, says, “Bonnie, one of our lovely ex-students and keen helper, was a great inspiration to us all during preparations for the show. I am sure she would be delighted with the whole outcome.”

“We are extremely grateful to Bonnie for choosing CLIC Sargent to benefit from The Florian Dance School’s performances, and to the students, families and supporters who have raised such an impressive amount,” says local Community Fundraising Manager Ann Cooper.  “The total raised has surpassed our expectations - a testament I’m sure to Bonnie’s popularity.

“CLIC Sargent offers clinical, practical and emotional support to children and young people with cancer like Bonnie, and their families. £4,000 is enough to fund a CLIC Sargent Nurse for a month who can give specialist care on the ward and at home for young people going through cancer treatment. The money raised will make a real difference and on behalf of CLIC Sargent I would like to thank everyone at The Florian Dance School for their fundraising efforts,” adds Ann.
