John Hutson, JD Wetherspoon CEO with Querida Williams, Head of Corporate Fundraising at CLIC Sargent
To celebrate six years of fundraising together, J D Wetherspoon and CLIC Sargent got together at The Crosse Keys pub in the heart of the city of London to raise a toast to the successful partnership.
Boxing legend and CLIC Sargent Patron Barry McGuigan joined the party and was asked to cut the cake to mark the anniversary. Barry first announced the partnership back in 2002 at the same pub.
Barry said, ”The relationship between JD Wetherspoon and CLIC Sargent is a remarkable one. In the six years the two organisations have been working together well over £2 million has been raised to help children with cancer and their families. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone within J D Wetherspoon and their customers, who have made this possible.”
The links between J D Wetherspoon and CLIC Sargent have gone from strength to strength over the last six years, with pubs up and down the country coming up with fundraising ideas from the wacky and bizarre, to the sporty and more far more serious. This year CLIC Sargent is proposing to launch Thanks a Million campaign to raise £1 million in just one weekend.
Querida Williams, Head of Fundraising for CLIC Sargent is full of praise for everyone at J D Wetherspoon who has committed themselves to fundraising over the last six years. “We are extremely proud that J D Wetherspoon has developed into CLIC Sargent’s longest standing corporate partner, and we would like to thank everyone who has helped us in whatever way they have been able. We are aiming to add substantially to this total during the year – all the money raised goes to provide much needed services for the families across the country affected by cancer.”
With nearly 700 pubs, in the heart of their communities up and down the country, the variety of fundraising activities that have been thought up by J D Wetherspoon employees and customers and carried out over the last six years is impressive – from performances of high opera to rock tribute bands, from sponsored headshaves to body waxing, from marathons to skydives, and quizzes to raffles.
“I’m delighted that everyone within J D Wetherspoon has risen to this challenge,” says CEO John Hutson. “The enthusiasm and commitment to CLIC Sargent is equalled by the desire to create events and activities that foster a real community spirit, and are enjoyed by everyone who takes part.”
