Two brothers diagnosed with the same type of leukaemia will be revealing the new look of a shop run by the children’s cancer charity which supported them both through their illnesses.
Daniel Pearse, aged nine, and his brother, Stephen, aged five, will be reopening the CLIC Sargent shop in Fore Street, Trowbridge which has recently undergone a refit. As well as being given a fresh lick of paint, new flooring was installed and the layout of the store altered to give it a brighter, fresher look for customers.
The shop will be formally reopened on Friday 8 August 2008 by the Pearse brothers, whose Mum, Julia, has been deputy manager of the shop since January.
Daniel was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) in April 2002 following a high temperature. He underwent three years of treatment, finishing in July 2005 and is now in remission. Seven months later, in February 2006, his brother Stephen, was diagnosed with the same condition.
One third of all childhood cancers are leukaemia, of which there are about 400 new cases each year. Approximately three out of four of these cases are ALL, however it is very rare for siblings to both be diagnosed with the condition.
On Friday, the siblings will be treated to a complimentary luxury drive around Trowbridge courtesy of A Class Limousines before opening the CLIC Sargent shop.
CLIC Sargent Shop Manager Kate Jones, said: “We are all so pleased with the fresh new look. It is due to donations and support from local businesses like A Class Limousines that we are able to maintain the support we give the Charity. I would also like to thank the people of Trowbridge for all their wonderful donations and the staff and all my fantastic volunteers for their help and support, not to mention all the work done by the head office team.
"We want to encourage shoppers to keep coming back time and time again so we can continue to raise the much needed funds which will help the Charity to support the ten children and young people diagnosed with cancer or leukaemia every day in the UK.”
CLIC Sargent has 29 shops in South West England which rely on the sale of items donated by supporters to keep trading. In 2007, sales of these items generated more than £2.164 million for the Charity.
