Runners in Scotland are being called to put their best feet forward to help families whose lives have been turned upside down by childhood cancer.

CLIC Sargent is looking to recruit participants from all over Scotland for a variety of running events, including the Ignis Asset Management Women’s 10K, the Edinburgh Marathon, the Edinburgh Half Marathon, the Dunfermline Half Marathon, the Dundee Half Marathon, the Great Scottish Run and the Loch Ness Marathon.

Stacey Mullen, 45, is an expert on running marathons for CLIC Sargent. This year she has set herself the staggering challenge of running ten marathons throughout Scotland notching up more than 100 miles in total. The legal cashier from Fife will be running:

  • BUPA Great Winter Run in Edinburgh
  • The Sir Chris Hoy Edinburgh Half Marathon
  • The BUPA Great Edinburgh 10K
  • The Dunfermline Auld Toun 10K
  • The Dunfermline Half Marathon
  • The Albert Bartlett Edinburgh Marathon
  • The Forth Bridge 10K
  • The Stirling 10K
  • The Great North Run Half Marathon
  • The Edinburgh or Glasgow Santa Run.

Stacey said: “The work CLIC Sargent does supporting children and young people with cancer really inspired me, and I wanted to be part of something worthwhile. I only began running two years ago, after trying a little jog and it went okay so I decided to give running a go with a couple of friends. It just shows that anyone can take up this sport.  My aim is to reach my fundraising target of £1,000 and encourage others don a vest and do their best!”

By taking part in any of the running events in Scotland on behalf of CLIC Sargent, participants will be helping to raise money for children and young people affected by cancer.

Samantha Martindale, Special Projects Coordinator for CLIC Sargent said: “Whether this is your first marathon, or if you are a seasoned-pro, there is an event to suit everyone. Running for CLIC Sargent is an incredible motivator to get you across the finishing line, because when you know all the money you are raising will help provide vital support for the thousands of children and young people diagnosed with cancer in the UK.

“If you want to run on behalf of CLIC Sargent places are limited and are available on a first come first served basis so we’d urge anyone interested in taking part to contact us as soon as possible.”
