Megan Blunt, 15 from Billericay, Essex, has been named Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Child of Courage and was presented with her award by children’s author J K Rowling at the prestigious award ceremony in London.
When presenting Megan with her award for writing the inspiring book Chemotherapy, Cakes and Cancer, JK Rowling said: “I want to give you this and I want to say if ever a book changed lives it’s yours.”
Megan was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in 2004 and chose to write a guide to surviving treatment in memory of her friend, Nathaniel Burke, who lost his battle with cancer in August 2006.
A host of stars were at the glittering ceremony to meet Megan and the other Pride of Britain winners, including: Ewan McGregor, Peter Kay, Carol Vorderman, David Walliams and Matt Lucas and Stephen Fry.
Carole Easton, Chief Executive at CLIC Sargent, says: “Megan is selfless and kind and we can’t thank or praise her enough.”
The A-Z survival guide, Chemotherapy, Cakes and Cancer was published by CLIC Sargent in March 2007. Since its launch, more than 2000 books have been issued to parents, relatives, friends, teachers and care professionals and has been downloaded 3280 times from this website.
