Marathon success

CLIC Sargent, the UK’s leading children’s cancer charity, had more than 330 runners in the 2007 Flora London Marathon on Sunday 22 April, each of whom made their way around the 26.2 mile course in a bid to raise money for the Charity. A staggering £595,000 – more than half a million pounds – is expected to be raised! 

The 330 strong running team included friends Scott Osborne and James Lorkin, who went to France to run the Paris Marathon and cycled back to the UK in time to run the Flora London Marathon. Other CLIC Sargent runners included friends Anthony Lobb and Jason Abbott, who fundraised by camping out for five days at their place of work – The Eden Project in Cornwall!

To support those running, CLIC Sargent had four cheering points at London Bridge, Tower Bridge, Embankment and Narrow Street with more than 100 supporters cheering on route.  Tamara Downes, Running Events Manager, CLIC Sargent, says: “The CLIC Sargent ‘Cheering Army’ certainly made lots of noise with their cheering sticks and banners, keeping our runners motivated and their spirits up. In all, the event was absolutely fantastic!  Seeing so many runners in the fuchsia CLIC Sargent running vest was incredible.  On behalf of the Charity I would like to say thank you to all our runners who trained and fundraised tirelessly making a real difference to the lives of the 10 children and young people diagnosed with cancer or leukaemia every day.”
