Twenty local children were treated to a VIP trip to the cinema before Christmas, thanks to the SHS Group, Business in the Community and CLIC Sargent.
The VIP lounge at the Odyssey complex was full of smiling faces as the children, aged between 12 -16, were greeted by SHS staff and a yummy lunch of pizza, drinks and ice-cream.
Hilary Dickson, Volunteering Manage at Business in the Community, says: “Organisations and businesses who actively participate in challenges in the community can make a tremendous difference in a short period of time.
“Businesses who build lasting relationships can help transform the communities in which they live and work. Staff benefit too as it’s a valuable way to have fun, learn and develop new skills.”
Cecilia Milburn, Partnership Manager at CLIC Sargent said: “This event is a great way for children and young people to relax with their friends in a fun environment, after what has been a challenging year for some. It is also an example of how businesses and organisations like BITC can work with charities like CLIC Sargent to make a real difference.
“Every week in Northern Ireland, two children or young people are diagnosed with cancer. We want to work with businesses and organisations to find better ways of ensuring young people and children with cancer and their families have the support they need, so they can focus on the most important thing: getting better.”
Popcorn and drinks were also provided during the private screening and the day finished with even more treats - the children were given a goody bag to take home – all in all a brilliant event!
