Calling all those with a head for heights! CLIC Sargent, is looking for daredevils to take part in an adrenalin-fuelled abseil off the Grimsby Dock Tower to raise money for children and young people with cancer, and their families.
The abseil will see brave souls descend a nail-biting 280 feet from the Grimsby Dock Tower individually or in teams on Saturday 13th June 2009.
One of the first to sign up for the event was Tom Croft from Hull who stepped up to take on the same challenge last year. Tom, and a group of 10 friends and work colleagues, will be taking to the wire dressed in full dinner suits – James Bond style – to raise up to £1,200 for CLIC Sargent.
“We all try and do a couple of events like this each year, mainly for fun,” says Tom. “We utterly enjoyed last years abseil so when we found out it was taking place again we got a similar group of mates together with a few new recruits. This is a great way to get the lads all together and the adrenalin pumping!”
This is the second consecutive year adrenaline-junkies have abseiled down the tower in support of CLIC Sargent and this year’s event is being sponsored by Forester Humberside Branch.
Claire Palmer, local Event Fundraising Manager for CLIC Sargent, says, “The abseil is a fabulous opportunity to really help make a difference to those families whose lives have been turned upside down by childhood cancer. Just walking up to the top of the tower can be a bit tricky so it’s certainly a challenge! I would encourage people to apply as soon as possible as the event is filling up fast.”
The abseil is open to anyone over the age of 16. Each participant is required to pay a registration fee of £25 and raise a minimum of £75 sponsorship per person.
For more information, or to register for the event, contact Claire at CLIC Sargent on: 01502 677777 or email: claire.palmer@clicsargent.org.uk.
