Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg MP sees CLIC Sargent at work

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg MP visited CLIC Sargent’s service team at The Children’s Hospital, Sheffield recently to find out more about the charity’s work with children and young people with cancer.

On his visit Mr Clegg met with young people Megan and Daniel and their families to hear how they found out they had cancer and how it has affected their lives.

CLIC Sargent Social Work Team Leader, Lesley Nicol, who is based at the hospital then took Mr Clegg on a tour of the ward to meet and talk with other children and young people living with cancer, including Mitchum who recently had a stem cell transplant.

Mr Clegg listened as Mitchum’s mum, Leanne, described the family’s experience of living in hospital for long periods of time and Professor Ajay Vora, Consultant Paediatric Haematologist, explained the essential support CLIC Sargent provides to staff and families visiting the hospital.

Mr Clegg MP, said: “I was humbled and moved by seeing first hand how life-changing living with cancer is for children, young people and the whole family.  I can't begin to imagine what they have been through and I have nothing but admiration for young people like Megan, Daniel and Mitchum, and the amazing work that CLIC Sargent does supporting families and young people like this every day."
