CLIC Sargent welcomed today's announcement that the Government is setting up a Children and Young People's Forum which will consider how best to improve outcomes for children and young people with health needs, including those with a cancer diagnosis.
Chief Executive Lorraine Clifton said:
"We have long been calling for the Government to outline how it intends to improve outcomes for children and young people with health needs and so we are delighted this is now being taken forward with the involvement of health and social care professionals, expert charities such as CLIC Sargent, parents and children and young people themselves.
We hope the Forum will explore issues such as joining up services across the NHS, social care and children's services as well as supporting commissioners to integrate services at local, regional and national level. This is particularly important for young cancer patients as they will need support from a range of services and at different levels: in specialist hospitals, in the community and, where possible, at home.
CLIC Sargent looks forward to being a part of the Forum and improving how the NHS works for children and young people with cancer".
