For the second year running, a team from CCT Online Ltd, a company that supports businesses communications systems, based in Bristol, has taken home the title for CLIC Sargent, the UK’s leading children’s cancer charity, by winning this year’s Bristol Dragon Boat Charity Regatta. The Bristol based team beat the TA team (Three Platoon, A Company, Six Rifles) at the end of the event, which was held on Sunday 30 September, by only 0.5 of a second. Bristol based company, MITIE who entered two teams, brought up the rear with one of its teams, the MITIE Marauders coming third.
Tom Dunkley, Captain of the CCT Online Ltd Team, says, “We are thrilled and delighted to have retained our Champions title. It is a wonderful event and we are proud to be supporting CLIC Sargent. Last year we raised £2085 for the Charity and we hope to raise even more money this year.”
Rifleman James Lucop, TA Team Captain, says: “We were delighted to support CLIC Sargent at this superb event. CLIC Sargent is our official charity and we’re pleased to support a charity that helps so many families. The whole team is determined to improve at next year’s regatta and I am immensely proud of them all.”
Stephen Barthorpe, MITIE Marauders, Team Captain, says: “Our two teams had a great time. We were delighted that one of our teams made the final, to win a trophy was completely unexpected. CLIC Sargent is our company’s official charity, so we’re delighted to have had so much fun raising money for them.”
Chris Banting, Community Fundraising Manager, CLIC Sargent, added: “CLIC Sargent is delighted to have the wholehearted support from such wonderful companies. With the help of our four teams, we hope to raise more than £6000 from this year’s Bristol Dragon Boat Charity Regatta. The money raised will help CLIC Sargent continue to support the 10 children and young people diagnosed with cancer or leukaemia every day in the UK and their families.”
CLIC Sargent provides support for children and young people affected by cancer, as well as their families, both in the hospital and at home. The Charity currently helps to fund nine care professionals based at Bristol Royal Children’s Hospital. The Charity also funds three Homes from Home in the city, which are located close to the hospital, allowing families to stay together in free self catering accommodation, whilst their child is receiving treatment.
