Bath pupils are hoping to hit the right note when they take to the streets to raise money for CLIC Sargent.
Around 40 pupils aged between four and 11 from St Philip’s School in Odd Down will be helping to spread a little festive cheer by singing a variety of Christmas carols.
The youngsters will perform for an hour outside The Pump Rooms from 4pm on Thursday 4 December. All the money raised will benefit the Charity which supports families whose lives have been turned upside-down by childhood cancer.
This will be the second year running the school has run the festive fundraiser for CLIC Sargent which last year raised £380.
Pip Millard, a teacher at St Philip’s Primary School, said: “St Philip’s School has been running the Christmas busking event for many years; this year and last we chose to raise money for CLIC Sargent because we have two courageous children in our school who are fighting cancer. We recognise how valuable CLIC Sargent’s work is and how the charity makes a vital difference to the families it supports. As a school we want to raise awareness, as well as money, to help more children and their families.”
Every day ten families are told the devastating news their child has cancer. CLIC Sargent is the only charity offering them care and support, every step of the way. Services provided by the charity locally include four CLIC Sargent care professionals (a social worker, a doctor and two nurses) which are based at the Royal United Hospital in Bath.
Local community fundraiser, Chris Banting said: “On behalf of CLIC Sargent I would like to say thank you to St Philips School for organising this festive fundraiser. The money raised will make a real difference to families whose lives have been turned upside-down by childhood cancer. At the RUH we fund nurses, a doctor and social worker so that we can help all children in Bath and the surrounding area. Right now we can only help two out of three families whose child has cancer. We need help from supporters, like St Philips School, to always be there for each and everyone.”
