When you have a passion for two wheels, there is nothing quite like taking your bike out on the open road, with the sun on your back and the wind in your hair.  With this in mind, CLIC Sargent, the UK’s leading children’s cancer charity is encouraging intrepid motorcyclists to sign up to the Barry Sheene Memorial Motorcycle Challenge taking place between 16-24 May this year!

2008 marks the 5th anniversary of the end of Barry Sheene’s battle against cancer. It is also the 40th anniversary of the start of the British motorcycling legend’s racing career. Barry became a hero for millions of people because of his dedication to the sport and his bravery and enthusiasm for life. “During his lifetime CLIC Sargent was supported by Barry and this year’s memorial challenge will be a fitting tribute to his amazing life,” said Beverley MacKenzie, CLIC Sargent’s Challenge Events Manager.

This year’s challenge, sponsored by eBike insurance, promises to be the motorcycling adventure of a lifetime. Starting in the UK, the bikers will cross over the channel into France, taking in the Le Mans Grand Prix before heading on to Nogaro, Pau, Montlhery and Le Circuit Carole en route. They then cross the border into Spain and ride through the stunning peaks and mountain passes of the Pyrenees. These roads offer some of best riding in Europe, with numerous hairpin bends, twists and turns.

“Last year’s event proved a real success and I’m sure this year’s will not disappoint even the most hardcore biker,” said Beverley. “The last May places are still available but the registration closes on Friday 7th March so anyone who wants to take part needs to get in touch with us now to avoid missing out!
