Alice Beer, former presenter of the BBC’s Watchdog and Heaven & Earth, joined children from the University College London Hospital (UCLH) to help launch a new and innovative charity, The Fund Aid Foundation.
The Foundation (www.fundaidfoundation.org) has been set up to get the financial services industry more involved in charitable fundraising and has selected CLIC Sargent, the UK’s leading children’s cancer charity, to be among the first charities to benefit at launch.
The Foundation is partnered with leading investment manager Cazenove Capital, who will donate a share of their management fees from a new share class of their Multi-Manager Diversity Fund. It means that investors can support charitable work simply by investing in the Diversity Fund. The scheme will be launched on 31st March 2008 and aims to raise £3 million for The Fund Aid Foundation in its first year.
Helping to launch the Foundation, Alice visited one of the hospitals which will benefit from the new Fund Aid Foundation, where she met with children who are being treated for cancer with support from CLIC Sargent.
John Kennedy, Chairman, Fund Aid Foundation, said: “Ordinary investors will now be able to reap the rewards of investing in a fund with a strong track record while making a meaningful donation to charity. The amount of money we are seeking to raise will make a significant contribution to our chosen charities and a real difference to the lives of children in need of support.”
The Fund Aid Foundation is advised by specialist adviser New Philanthropy Capital (NPC) which identifies charities which use donations to the best effect and advises on the most effective way to support them.
