CLIC Sargent join Team MITIE to celebrate the launch of 24seven
Beverley Mackenzie, Challenges Events Manager for CLIC Sargent joined the first entrants from Bristol, Team MITIE, to the 24seven challenge to celebrate the launch of this new physical and mental agility event.
Participants will be tasked with covering a marathon distance (26.2 miles) over the course of the event, of foot, by bike and in a canoe. Along the way there will also be a variety on mental tests to contend with including navigation and problem solving. The ultimate goal of the event is to raise money for CLIC Sargent.
The event can be completed in teams of three or as an individual. The first team to enter from Bristol was MITIE, from the leading Bristol based facilities company of the same name. The MITIE team is made up of Lucy Clark from Downend, Anna Jameson from Mangotsfield and Duncan Overy from Kingswood.
Lucy, who works in facilities at MITIE is also a Charity Champion for one of the company’s designated charities, CLIC Sargent. She said, “We have done dragon boat racing, an abseil and various quizzes for charity before, but this seemed like something a little different.
She continued, “We haven’t started training for it yet but we are going to begin with swimming and cycling. We are all quite sporty so we should enjoy it. We have already raised £1,200 and are all really looking forward to taking part.”
Sponsorship for the 24seven Challenge is being gathered and tracked through a unique website: www.24sevenchallenge.co.uk. Much of the event is being kept secret from entrants, as they receive donations on the website, aspects of the challenges and equipment they need will be revealed.
Taking place in the beautiful Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire on October 11th and 12th 2008, 24seven is not just about who is the fittest; general endurance, stamina and resolve will be the order of the day. Taking part will undoubtedly be a genuine physical challenge, but every task will allow those with more limited skill and fitness levels to take part. Mental dexterity, careful planning and smart thinking will count for just as much as how fit you are.
Beverley Mackenzie, Challenge Events Manager at CLIC Sargent, said: “24seven is the ultimate challenge event with physical and mental activities designed to really test competitors. Completing a challenge like 24seven is a fantastic personal achievement, and to know that you’re raising money to help children and young people with cancer across Bristol is a great motivator.
"Set yourself a goal this summer and register for 24seven!”
