To say that 16 year old Megan Blunt is the kind of teenager who likes to look on the bright side is to underestimate her. Despite being diagnosed with osteosarcoma in 2004 at aged 14, and losing her close friend Nathan to the same disease in 2006, she has written an A-Z guide to surviving cancer treatment to help make cancer treatment less frightening for other teenagers and children.
The book, Chemotherapy, Cakes and Cancer, is packed full of tips and explanations about everything to do with having cancer and is available to download here, or you can order it though our Helpline by calling 0800 197 0068, or by emailing helpline@clicsargent.org.uk.
Chemotherapy, Cakes and Cancer is practical and funny - and was written by Megan to not only to help others - but to make sure that her friend Nathan's memory was kept alive.
Here's what Megan has to say:
“Losing my friend was the driving force I needed. I had been given a chance to live. I wanted to do something which kept his memory alive and help others who were having treatment for cancer.”
“I hope to be the walking advertisement for how something good can come out of cancer. When I was ill I found there was little information available that was aimed at people my age. Hopefully my book will help others as it contains hints, tips and easy definitions of some of the long technical medical words. I hope that it can be used as a reference book to make young people’s time in hospital a little easier."
