Original topic post: Hoping to find someone in our area

message: My 9 year old son was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in February 2007. He would very much like to get to know someone around his own age - boy or girl - with the same or similar diagnosis so I am posting this in the hope that someone in the London area might see it and get in touch. On our many visits to hospital he has only met very young children (or teenagers) with this disease and is beginning to ask if there is anyone out there of his own age who he could get to know. At the moment he just gets on with everything that the treatment entails and is living as normal a life as maintenance chemotherapy allows, but it is still a big part of his life that he doesn't speak about to his friends as they dont understand anything about it. At the moment he thinks he is the only one in this situation so if anyone could get in touch that would be great.

Finding someone to talk to about your experience as a cancer patient, or family member can be really hard. You could start by asking your CLIC Sargent social worker or youth worker if they know of anyone who seems appropriate, or of any groups where people can talk about what they are going through, getting an opportunity to meet people in a similar position.

You could also contact the CLIC Sargent helpline who have lots of details of websites and support groups who may be able to help.
