Member Stories

The day i was diagnosed with thyroid cancer was the worst day of my life. I fell to the ground in tears, and my family were in peices. I never thought id get cancer at the age of 12. I found it hard to believe especially when i was told it had spread to my lungs. For days i cried and nobody quite knew what to say.
I found going to school hard, especially when it came to telling my friends. Everyone was really supportive and my mum comforted me whenever i felt low. I wasnt sure wether i would survive as it had spread so much, so i asked my mum if i would die? She promised me i wouldnt and id be ok.
After 14 hours of surgery and a month in intensive care no-one thought id make it, but i didnt give up. I had 5 radioiodine treatments and they worked well. I finished treatment August last year and now have regular checkups. My advice for others with cancer is never give up, and talk to people about it even if they dont understand. xx

Getting Through Cancer

While going through cancer, the only thing that really kept me going was to stay positive and remember that i had all the love and support i needed from my family & friends. Its hard to stay positive while living with cancer, but it does help and people around feel more positive. Feeling alone was my biggest problem but through clic, i realized i wasnt alone and other people felt the same. Also knowing how much people were thinking about me and wishing me to get better, helped me pull through it. Having Cancer has changed the way i look at life, and surviving cancer has been a good achievement. Although its been a hard time im glad ive had the experience and now can talk about it. Jordan :D
