Ward routine

Meal Times: There is a cook on the ward and the hospital provides meals for patients. Menus are distributed daily for you to make a selection on behalf of your child. Parents can make drinks/snacks etc for themselves in the ward kitchen.

Parents also have access to the Chatters restaurant or snack bar in the hospital.  The opening times are:

  • Breakfast: 7.30am - 9.15am
  • Lunch: 11.45am- 2.15pm or 12pm- 2pm Sat/Sun
  • Dinner: 6.30pm - 7.15pm or 6.15pm-7.15pm Sat/Sun.

Rounds: All patients will be seen and examined each day by one of the ward doctors. This usually occurs in the morning but may be a little later during busy periods. The doctors will be happy to answer any questions that you or your child may have at these times.

Visiting Times: Visiting times are not restricted on the ward. Although there are no constraints, visiting after 8pm is discouraged as this is bed time or quiet time. Any visitors who have potentially been in contact with chicken pox/measles or other infectious diseases are advised not to come, as this could seriously compromise the health and well-being of the patients.

Accommodation for families

There is a fold-away bed beside each child's bed which allows at least one adult to stay at any time. Above the ward there is a parents’ flat with six bedrooms, strictly for adults, which has a fully equipped kitchen and a dining and sitting area. Space in this area is restricted and allocation of rooms is decided on a priority basis. There is also accommodation available in the Rhys Daniels flats in Belmont. Strict allocation criteria also applies in relation to this facility.
