General hospital amenities
St. James's Hospital is currently undergoing renovation work. Facilities available include a canteen which also sells newspapers, a cashpoint (located in the Gledhow Wing) and pharmacy. There is a patient reception area in the Gledhow Wing where you can find details of transport. Once the renovation work is completed in Spring 2009, the new facilities will include a bakery, a coffee shop, a NatWest bank, a convenience store and several retail outlets including a florist and card shop.

Train: Leeds main train station is located in the centre of the city around two miles from the hospital. All major services from around the UK arrive at Leeds. The best service to get is the number 4 bus. Turn left out of the railway station to City Square. The buses go every 10 minutes.
Bus: A variety of buses serve St James's hospital. From the city centre the quickest and most direct is the number 4. Bus numbers 42, 49, 50, 50A, 61, 62 and 88 also travel via the hospital.
Parking: Parking charges are as follows:
Up to 4 hrs -£1 per hour
Up to 5 hrs - £6
Up to 6 hrs - £8
Up to 7 hrs - £10
Up to 24 hrs - £12
Families staying on the ward can obtain a permit from the Ward Clerk. For children having out-patient chemotherapu at the Children's Day Hospital, permits are available from Reception.

No. of Beds:
Ward 10: 18 beds in 3 bays and 5 cubicles;
Ward 10T: 6 beds in 1 bay and 2 cubicles;
Ward 94: 9 beds in bays and 3 cubicles.
Age Range:
Ward 10: 0 – 13;
Ward 10T: 13 – 24.
Ward 94: 18 - 25. After this age the patient will be cared for on the adult ward.

Play: There are two nursery nurses in the playroom and one play specialist on the children’s ward, which can only be accessed when it is staffed. The room is well-equipped and contains different arts and crafts, books, toys, a computer, pool table and Playstations. The Playstations are on trolleys and can be used while the child is in bed. There is an activities coordinator in the dayroom on the adolescent ward The dayroom contains a pool table, large screen TV, DVD player, a computer and DJ music equipment. Again, there are Playstations available on the ward. The adolescent ward also benefits from laptops and internet access by the bedside.
Learning: There is a hospital school operating Monday to Friday in the afternoons. Both wards 10 and 10T also have a full-time learning mentor to liaise with the child’s school, college or university.
Other Facilities: There is a kitchen on Ward 10 staffed by food service assistants who can prepare snacks and light lunches for patients on Wards 10 and 10T. There is also a parents' sitting room and separate kitchen.

Ward routine
Meal Times: These are at set times. Usually breakfast is at 8am, lunch at 12pm and tea at 5pm.
Rounds: These are carried out every morning. The MDT rounds are on a Monday afternoon.
Visiting Times: Open visiting is in place.

Accommodation for families
One parent is able to stay next to every bed on the ward. There is also a home within the grounds of St James’s called Eckersley House, which is supported by the Sick Children’s Trust. This is available to families who do not live in Leeds. There are 15 bedrooms and one flat (parents of under-16s only). Accommodation should be organised through the ward staff.
