General hospital amenities
A WRVS cafeteria (Mon-Thurs 8am-8pm, Fri 8am-7pm, Sat and Sun 10am-6pm) exists, together with a shop and a newsagent. There is also a chapel located in the hospital. Payphones are located throughout the hospital. There is a cashpoint in the main concourse of the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, which you can get to via the link bridge.
Local amenities include a Post Office on Union Street, and a recreation department at Aberdeen City Council. There is also the Statrosphere Children and Adult Interactive Science Exhibition.
top of pageTravel details to hospital
Train: Aberdeen train station is located approximately three miles from the hospital in the city centre. Buses leave from the centre of Aberdeen on a regular basis.
Bus: First Aberdeen services 5,6,12 and 13 and Stagecoach Bluebird services 10, 59 and 216 go to the Hospital. If you would like information about bus routes and times, please telephone First Aberdeen Bus line on (01224) 650065 or Bluebird Buses on (01224) 212266.
Parking on Site: Car parking around the hospital is limited. When you bring your child for admission, have your admission book ready to show the barrier attendant. Other visitors may be asked to park at the main car park across the road from Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. Car parking charges are £1 for up to 5hrs, £5 thereafter.

General: There are two wards on which oncology patients might be placed – the Medical Ward (extension 50380) and the Surgical Ward.
No. of Beds: There are 32 beds with 10 cubicles for oncology patients.
Age Range: 0-15 (after this age, the patient may be placed at the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary).

Ward facilities
Play: There are play specialists on each ward and there is one in the clinic for the children. On the wards there is a play area which is well stocked with toys and games. There are computers in the clinic for the children to use. There is a teenage room with a TV, games and computers.
Learning: A teaching facility exists in the hospital. One teacher is based on the hospital grounds and teaching is available to children who are in for a long stay.
Other Facilities: There is a parents’ room with seating and a television.

Meal Times: Breakfast is at 8am, lunch at 12pm and dinner at 5pm. Snacks are at 10.30am and 3pm.
Rounds: Ward rounds are at fixed times and are usually in the morning.
Visiting Hours: These are completely open for everyone, although after 8pm visiting is restricted to parents.

Accommodation for families
In the separate rooms on the wards there are drop-down beds on which a parent is able to sleep. There is hospital accommodation available for families, which is arranged through the ward staff. 17 bedrooms are available as single or twin rooms. Also within this accommodation are kitchen and laundry facilities.
