General Hospital Amenities
There is a restaurant, chaplaincy, coffee shop, snack bar, cash point and shops.
Crownhill, which is about a mile down the main road, has a small range of shops, which include a bank and Post Office. There are also branches of Tesco and Asda within a one mile radius (maps are kept in information folders in cubicles). There is an M&S food-hall and fast food restaurants five minutes walk away.

Train: Plymouth station is located approximately seven miles from the hospital. The station is very near the city centre and the best bus to take to the hospital from the station is the Number 7. This service runs approximately every 20 minutes.
Bus: Derriford Hospital has the second largest bus terminal in Plymouth, with over 44 buses an hour at peak periods. The fastest route to the hospital is the Number 7 service from the Royal Parade in the city centre. This leaves around every 20 minutes. To obtain the latest times and routes ring: 0870 608 2608.
Parking on Site: Although Derriford has Devon's largest car park, parking is limited and the car parks are usually very busy.
Patient Parking: For patients attending chemotherapy, radiotherapy and oncology, the charge is £1.20 all day.
If you are collecting a patient, you may park for a maximum of 20 minutes without charge.

Ward Facilities
Play: There are specialist play workers on the ward to play with the children. They can take toys into the cubicles and also participate in activities with the children.
Learning: For those children who are well enough, there is a hospital school room where the children can complete school work set by their local school. Staff are on hand in the room to support their learning.
Other facilities: Internet access is possible in the cubicles.

Meal Times: These are at fixed times.
Rounds: Doctors perform rounds every day, as does the oncology specialist. There are no set times for the rounds.
Visiting: Open access visiting is in place.

Accommodation for families
In each cubicle there is a bed available for a parent. There are two-three parent rooms offered on the children’s unit. Facilities include TV, bed, washing and tea/coffee making facilities. Parents whose children are not in cubicles have priority. There is a TravelLodge just opposite the hospital.

Domiciliary Care: Facilitated by CLIC Sargent nurses and a CLIC Sargent Social Worker.
Palliative Care: Offered by the multi-disciplinary team plus the primary health care team.
Play Therapist: A play therapist is available at the clinic and can help with preparation for scans, procedures, etc.
Psychology: A psychologist attends the clinic and routinely meets all families. She is also involved with Care Team in running groups.
Support Groups: There are plans for a new parent support group to start shortly.
