Home > About childhood cancer >The news that over 70% of children and young people with cancer will survive their illness is encouraging. There are now more than 20,000 survivors of childhood cancer in the UK, all of whom need some form of ongoing care and support. After treatment is completed, CLIC Sargent continues to help survivors of childhood cancer, both in treatment and in remission.
Yet survival often comes at a price.
Survivors face major challenges as a consequence of their treatment - medically, emotionally and socially.
If you are a survivor of childhood cancer you may have health worries, problems with your heart, lungs, kidneys. Infertility is another issue, as is the possibility of reduced employment opportunities and missed education. Not to mention possible changes in your social life.
We welcome any suggestions about information you would like to see on this website. Please email our child cancer helpline with your comments, or add your story and experiences to the website for others to read.

These annual meetings, run by survivors, for survivors provide an opportunity for people from all over the world to meet and learn about issues related to their disease and its treatment. ICCCPO is a good place to hear about how survivors groups work in different countries, and get ideas about how to start a survivors group. Besides being informative, these conferences provide the opportunity to meet and make friends with people with similar experiences.
